The Toyota Tacoma gets a nice mid-cycle refresh, with updates in the interior and infotainment. Exterior wise, the updated Tacoma receives new headlights, different grilles, and some revised taillights. Powertrains stay the same.

I think it would have been nice to see Toyota update the powertrain, as I believe that’s where the Tacoma lags behind (well not behind the Frontier). However, Toyota’s in-house 8-speed auto doesn’t seem to get rave reviews.

What does Oppo think of the updates?

About what I expected. Mid cycle refreshes for Toyota rarely include any kind of mechanical changes. Four years in, at least 5 more to go for the third gen.

I didn’t look at any before and after photos, but the after photos sure look like the current version to me. I can’t even tell a difference without comparing it to another photo. You can say “mild” refresh again.

Talk to me when Toyota finally gives it a center differential.

Improvements are good, but seems like the Colorado will still probably be the best all- a r ou nder

Motortrend did a comparison recently. First was the Colorado for its ability to split work and commute well, ridgeline was second because it’s on road behavior made up for its lack of being able to do full truck things, Ranger was third due to its power train being good but everything else feeling old, Tacoma was last because it drove like the oldest one despite being “best looking”.

Yeah, I saw the headline, but haven’t read the story yet.

THANKS FOR SPOILING IT! Haha just kidding. That’s pretty much the order I would have guessed

I probably would have g uessed the Ranger would have been ahead of the Ridge line, though .

Meh. Still has drum brakes and uses wayyyy more fuel than it should relative to power output.

Nicer and fancier interior bits as well as some exterior styling updates , which means that they will still sell bunches of them.

Motortrend complained that the ranger felt like an upgrade to a really old platform. New tech and power train in a wrapper that’s been around since 2012 in other countries...sounds familiar. If Toyota had a more “ competitive” engine/trans combo I’d bet they would have been ahead of the ranger

Always enjoy  the Colorado when I drive them, but damn the seats suck. Don’t know if I could own one due to that.

Pretty. The problem with the Pro is Toyota chose all the parts.. That’s all the fun of modding- eg; Baja Design > Rigid everyday same with OME/Icon > F ox .

Head and tail lights? Anyone who cares that much about the looks has already retro-fitted or bought 3rd party replacements.

Bigger info-tainment and screen just means a bigger part of the dash to ignore 90% of the time.

10- way power seats probably aren’t goign to solve the butt hurt from people who don’t like sitting on the floor style. .
